Dick was the co-owner and founder, with his wife, Diane, of Halcyon Psychological Services, Inc. in Mentor, OH after retiring as the Director of the New Leaf Recovery Program at University Mednet. Dick continued to manage Halcyon until the day he suffered a stroke on September 22nd.
Dick was a friend of Bill W. for 44 years and he devoted his life to helping those struggling with addiction. Countless numbers of people have achieved sobriety through Dick's guidance and support.
He and Diane traveled the world, including every continent except Antarctica. Their astonishing experiences with diverse populations and cultures included walking the Great Wall in China, riding elephants in Thailand, swimming with dolphins in Honduras, snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, climbing the ruins at Chichen Itza, riding camels in Morocco, zip lining across the Costa Rican jungles, walking the ancient ruins of Rome and Athens, strolling down the Champs-Elysees, visiting the pyramids of Giza, viewing Dubai from the world's tallest building-the Burj Khalifa, dining with the Xhosa tribe in Africa and, of course, kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland as he definitely had the gift of gab!
Dick spent the last 7 years of his life enjoying the winters at Hilton Head Island and summers on Cape Cod to which he returned permanently in May of this year. In his leisure, Dick enjoyed the beach, movies, dining out with friends, family time and walking his dogs.
He was a unique individual whose quirky sense of humor and engaging personality will be greatly missed.
