Ragna P. (Knutsen) Bolstad, 91, died August 6, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Harstad Norway, she began work in the factories at the age of 16. Her childhood friend and sweetheart Eugen Bolstad became her husband in March of 1953. A year later, they came to Brooklyn N.Y. where they resided until 1966. Here, she began to raise her family and continued her role as a mother and homemaker when they moved to Red Bank N.J. in 1966. Throughout much of her married life, the family spent summers in Montauk, N.Y. In 1976 Eugen passed away and Ragna eventually came to live with her daughter Carol in Dorchester, MA., before moving to Cape Cod in 2011.
In her younger years, Ragna was very involved with the Ladies Auxillary for the Sons of Norway and the Church. She was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway in N.J. and former parishioner of St. Nicholas Mission in Chelsea, MA. She loved to paint and sew and was regarded by her family as “her own fashion designer” and “ahead of the curve.” Devoted to her family, her granddaughter Danielle fondly remembers two trips she and her grandmother took in 1993 and 1996 to Norway in order to introduce Danielle to the country and members of the family still residing there.
She leaves her son Eugene Bolstad and wife Joyce Quadrel of Colts Neck, N.J., daughter Carol Bolstad and her partner Julie Lytle of Hyannis, MA., a sister, Reidun Knutsen of Harstad, Norway and her granddaughter Danielle M. Bolstad of Howell, N.J.
Services will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to VNA Hospice and Palliative Care, 434 Rt. 134, Suite D3, S. Dennis, MA 2660.
