Born in Boston, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Skelly, Mrs. Borg had two brothers, Johnny and Richard Skelly, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the widow of the late David Borg.
Mrs. Borg grew up in Scarsdale, N.Y., and attended Pine Manor College outside of Boston. After graduating in 1950, she studied fashion retailing in New York and became a buyer for Lord & Taylor in New York City. She and her husband loved the New York nightlife and were regulars at the Stork Club, where they had their own table. She was a big fan throughout her life of the music of Cole Porter and Cape Cod's Eddie Higgins.
In 1955, Mrs. Borg moved to Osterville with her parents, where she lived on East Bay Road. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Osterville where she served as president of the church guild and was active in church affairs.
A member of the Wianno Club, Mrs. Borg began work at the Yield House in the early 1980s. When not at work, she could often be found at the local cinema, which she loved. Among her favorite actors was Richard Burton, for whom she always carried a torch. She also loved entertaining at home, where she was famous for boisterous thanksgiving dinners.
Ten years ago, she moved to Yarmouthport. Over the last three years, as her health deteriorated, Mrs. Borg became especially close to her caregiver, Karen Spencer, of Yarmouth. Karen's attention and love kept Mrs. Borg living independently.
Besides her daughter, she leaves behind her sister-in-law Marsha, and her two nieces Susan and Laurie, all of Long Island, N.Y. She also leaves behind a bevy of people, young and old, who thought of her as their mom, their friend, and one of Cape Cod’s true originals.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Osterville. Interment will follow in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Donations in memory of Mrs. Borg can be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
