S. YARMOUTH- Susie (Marjorie) K. O’Brien, 87, died peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Thirwood Place Assisted Living. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. O’Brien, of Barnstable and West Dennis, with whom she shared 61 loving years of marriage.
Born in Akron, Ohio and raised in East Liverpool, OH, she was a daughter of the late Doris and Alphonse Knapp. Susie was a graduate of Mount De Chantal Academy in Wheeling, West Virginia and undergraduate at Trinity College in Washington, DC. Following graduation she worked for IBM in Washington, DC.
She was a student and teacher of the Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) at Cape Cod Community College and served on the board of the ALL for several years. She taught her passion, Opera Appreciation, for 16 years. Susie was a Life Member of the West Dennis Yacht Club, West Dennis, MA and former member of the Hyannis Yacht Club. She was also an active member of Astronomy Club of Cape Cod for many years, as well as a board member of the Coast Guard Wives Club in Washington, DC and Boston, MA.
Susie and her husband traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, the Carribean and Bermuda.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived and will be deeply missed by daughters, Kathryn A. Gaglione and husband, Thomas Gaglione of Seabrook, NH and Elizabeth E. Cunniff and husband, J.M. Cunniff, Jr of Marblehead, MA. And siblings, Mary Jane Jones of Los Angeles, CA and Cynthia Triedman and husband, Dr. Leonard Triedman of Naragansett, RI; and 3 grandchildren, Alaina Gaglione, Daniel Gaglione and Michael Cunniff.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. on WEDNESDAY, January 24th at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W Main St. Hyannis. Her Funeral Mass will be held on THURSDAY, January 25th at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Burial will take place directly following in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Susie to support cancer research and patient care at: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
