Peggy attended Middlebury College in Vermont and after graduating in 1953, she worked in NYC as the music coordinator at NBC’s Home Show. She commuted every day from Morristown, NJ. On one of her train rides home, she met a dapper young Bell Labs engineer, whose first words to her on a completely empty commuter train were, “is this seat taken?”
Peggy and Dave were married in 1957. They moved to Massachusetts in the 1960s and raised three children: David, Melissa, and Julie. During these years she was a piano teacher, a nursery school music teacher, and very active singing in chorales and choirs in and around Wayland, MA. One of her biggest thrills was singing with the Masterworks Chorus at Tanglewood under the baton of Seiji Ozawa.
Peggy and David had many wonderful experiences together during their 57 years of marriage. They lived in Brussels for four years, a cherished experience for both. After retirement, they traveled all over the world. Antigua was nearly a second home to them. The whole family, including the grandkids, spent many years enjoying its beauty.
On the Cape, Peggy continued her involvement in music and the arts. She was very active with the Cape Cod Conservatory, teaching piano to young people, singing with the Chatham Chorale, and playing violin and piano in small chamber groups. She enjoyed playing piano at a local hospice and was an active volunteer at St. Clare’s in Hyannis, a Catholic social service providing sober transitional housing for women.
In recent years, she found joy in spending time with family. Peggy loved and was deeply loved by her family and friends. She is survived by son David, daughters Melissa and Juliet, grandchildren Charlie, Margot, Wally and Melissa, and son-in-law John Pratt.
She remained a proud, strong-willed Swiss-Hungarian until her final days. Mom, you were a force of nature. We love you and you are forever in our hearts.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 24 at 11am at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville, 230 S. Main St., Centerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Peggy Lambert to either: Chatham Music Club Scholarship Fund, c/o P. Skinger, 300 Buck Island Road, West Yarmouth, MA 02673 or St. Clare’s of Hyannis, 949 Pitchers Way, Hyannis, MA 02601.
