CENTERVILLE- Mae Gentile (Virgin) of Centerville, Massachusetts passed away at the age of 90 years old on August 24th at the Avita Memory Care Facility of Newburyport, MA surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in 1929 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to John and Doris Virgin, and had one brother Robert Virgin (deceased). She was loved and cherished by many, leaving behind Joseph Gentile, husband of 67 years; daughters Linda Foley and husband David, Karen Arana and husband John; and son Mark Gentile and wife Rose. Her greatest pride and joy was her family, including her 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She attended Revere High School and in her younger years she worked for Revere Gas and Electric Company where she developed lifelong friendships. She met the love of her life at a ballroom dance in Revere and they were later married in 1953.
Mae gave of her time and heart to many wonderful causes helping those around her. She volunteered at church fairs with her arts and crafts talents. She was known for her countless knitting of hats and scarves both for her grandchildren and for those in need. She was very active socializing, volunteering and fundraising at the Barnstable Senior Center. The Senior Center was an important part of her life. When she wasn’t having tea, or at a Red Hat Society event, you could find her on the dance floor. She loved music and was also an avid gardener her entire life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always smiling and cherished spending time with and watching her grandchildren grow. Anyone who knew Mae encountered genuine love, kindness, generosity and acceptance.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday September 2nd. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mae’s name can be sent to the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Association in Waltham. Private services will be held with family and by invitation. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.doanebealameshyannis.com
