Her early schooling was at St. Joseph School and Bartlett High School in Webster, MA. From there she went on to receive her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, at Boston College, and continued at the same university to receive her MSW. For several years she was employed in the social work field primarily working with special needs individuals. She left that discipline and entered the world of real estate development and property management, most recently working for 18 ½ years at Hostetter Realty. Working for and with Dan Hostetter Sr. was a learning experience, a time Judy appreciated. Is death changed things. Later Judy enjoyed 5 years at The Fairfield Inn and The Mill Hill Residence. Judy often mentioned how interesting her experiences were at Mill Hill and how impressed she was by the dedication and conscientiousness of staff. She was awed by the patience and guidance visible throughout.
Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lt. Col. Filmore McAbee. She leaves two brothers, Stanley and Joseph, both of Webster. She often commented on Stan being a true blessing for her, always putting Judy first and frequently coming to her rescue in circumstances ranging from serious to bizarre, never complaining, never judgmental.
Before and during the cancer journey, Judy marveled at the support, love and caring her friends offered. Some of them, certainly not all, include her “dental family,” Jen and family, Pam and the Mill Hill Madams, Joanna, K2, Maureen, Pat and Guy, Basia, Christina and Jack, Vicki and Josephine, and Tricia. Judy would offer special thanks to Dr. Ethan Glazener who took time to know her and listen to her, not just hear her words. He diligently followed through and adapted with meds, etc. as her cancer developed, always prioritizing her comfort. Laurie, the doctor’s nurse, was seen by Judy as a gift, and angel. She went out of her way to implement doctor’s orders, offer support and helpful hints. Judy thanked God for this oncology team, as well as her ENT doctor, Dr. Johnson. Thank you.
A memorial mass for Judy will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St., Centerville. Burial will be private.
Judy felt strongly about the fabulous work done at St. Jude’s. Though unnecessary, if you choose to offer support to St. Jude’s in Judy’s name, that contribution would be appreciated. Mailing address: St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 33105. Many thanks.
