Joseph L. Supple, 90, of Centerville, MA, and most recently of Hingham, loving husband of Marjorie Cotton Supple, passed away on June 2, 2024. He was born on January 8, 1934 to Joseph I. and Marie C. (Ludovic) Supple and grew up in Newton Centre, where he graduated from St. Sebastian’s School in 1951.
Joe is survived by his sister Jacqueline M. Carolan of Westwood, brother David G. Supple and his wife Kate of Easley, SC, and is predeceased by his brother Peter of Watertown, MA. He is survived by daughter Carolyn Supple Calvano of Baltimore, MD, son John “JJ” Supple and his wife Amy of Carlisle, MA, and daughter Alison Supple Evans and husband Jonathan of Orleans, MA. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Ava Grace Calvano of Albuquerque, NM, and Vaughan and Bowen Supple both of Carlisle, MA. He was predeceased by his first wife Claire L. Henneberry.
Joe earned a BA in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross in 1955. Following college, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Brownson (DD868) in Mediterranean and Middle East during the Suez Crisis, and later for many years in the U.S., U.K. and Germany with the Naval Reserve Intelligence Program.
Joe’s business career spanned 34 years in the early days of the computer industry. He worked in numerous software services and consulting roles, eventually retiring in 1990 from Digital Equipment Corporation of Maynard, MA (now known as HP, Inc.). Throughout his career, Joe lectured in information systems at Northeastern University in Boston, and other local colleges.
He was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Centerville, MA, and an active member of the Holy Cross Club of Cape Cod. His charitable efforts included volunteering for the American Diabetes Association. His hobbies included reading, classical music, bicycling, boating, gardening, and picture framing.
Joe’s early retirement at age 57, enabled him to pursue many other occupational interests. He assisted the EPA’s Regional Office in Boston with the administration of a unique educational grants program for non-profits throughout New England. He served as board member and president of Holy Cross Club of Cape Cod. And combining his love of travel, history, meeting new people, and extensive knowledge of the area, Joe became an avid tour guide around his beloved Cape Cod and throughout New England. He served as both charter board member and president of the Cape Cod and Islands Tour Guide Association (CITGA).
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 10-11 AM at Our Lady of Victory, 230 S. Main St., Centerville, MA 02632 followed by an 11 AM Funeral Mass. Burial with military honors will take place at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, MA.
