Joe lived for spending time with his extended family where he was not only a beloved father, grandfather and uncle but also an inspiration and great friend to everyone who knew him. He loved sailing and being on the water, evidenced by the distinct red sail of his catboat “Ripple”, which was a common sight gracing the horizon of Barnstable Harbor. He was an active member of the Barnstable Yacht Club and a reliable volunteer with Barnstable Historical Society as well as an enthusiastic contributor to whoever needed a helping hand.
He was the loving husband to Moni for 47 years of marriage, adoring father of Susan M. of Boston, MA, and Erik J. of Yarmouthport, MA and their spouses, Thomas G. Shanahan and Jesse Mae Stacy respectively. His greatest joy was being the grandfather “Papa” of Samuel Gray Shanahan, Lilian Kristina Shanahan, Iris Odelia Stacy and Ruby Mae Stacy.
