VIGIL, Jerome "Jerry", PhD of Centerville, MA, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2024, at the age of 79. Survived by his devoted and loving wife of over 58 years, Lorraine "Lori" Vigil (Kedzior); his four children, Brian and his wife Pamela, Melanie and her husband Bryan, Joseph and his wife Fawn, Nadine and her former husband Christian; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Charles, Nicholas, Snow, Theoren, Cameron, Henry; and his extended family of siblings, cousins, and nieces and nephews who dubbed him the “Fun Uncle.” Jerry was a graduate of DePaul University where he earned a Master of Science degree in Physics, and of The Ohio State University, where he earned a Ph.D. in Physics. He was the proud owner of Vigil Electric Company, a successful commercial electrical contractor in the Greater Boston area. Through his company, Jerry met a man named Slow Turtle of the Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness (MCNAA), where they had many conversations about Native issues and “Indian Identity.” Jerry’s paternal great grandmother lived on a reservation in the Southwest, and he was so very proud to share information about his Southwest Mestizo heritage. His maternal grandmother was born in Ukraine, and Jerry felt a close affinity to the Ukrainian culture as well. Jerry cherished his family above all else and his legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will endure for generations to come. A memorial will be held at a later date to celebrate his life.
