Gertrude Elizabeth “Rusty” Wilcox, 84 of Hyannis, MA formerly of Brockton, MA. Born in Franklin, MA on December 20, 1937, she was the daughter of Walter Austin and Madeline Greene Austin. She was also the sister of the late Walter and Frederick Austin.
She was a graduate of Brighton, MA High School in 1955. She married the late James F. Wilcox in 1963 and lived in Brockton, MA before moving to Hyannis in 1999. Jim predeceased her in 2015.
Rusty was a devoted mother and was always active in the activities of her children. For many years she was the school clerical aid at the North Easton Grammar School in North Easton, MA. She was a Trustee and Treasurer for the Hawthorne Terrace Condominium Association. She and Jim always treasured their time on the Cape and the many close friendships they had at Hawthorne Terrace. She was an avid reader and one of her favorite spots on the Cape was the Centerville Library. There was nothing she enjoyed more than watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy each night.
Rusty is survived by her four children, Jennifer J. and her husband Adam Zahn of Henderson, NV, James B. and Lisa Wilcox of Mansfield, MA, Steven J. and Christine Wilcox of Colchester, CT, and Christopher M. and Lisa Wilcox of Dighton, MA.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Hackett of North Attleboro, MA, Robert, Michael, and Laura Wilcox of Mansfield, MA. Caroline, Connor, and Ryan Wilcox of Colchester, CT. CJ and Casey Wilcox of Somerset, MA, Jason Wilcox and Matthew Wilcox of Dighton, MA.
She was also the great-grandmother of Ryleigh and McKenna Hackett of North Attleboro, MA.
The family would also like to thank her caregivers, Kristin, Taylor, and Laura who were all considered part of our family. Rusty adored and appreciated the girls as they were a big part of her daily routine. They allowed her to live out her final years in comfort and at home.
