It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gerald (Jerry) Quinn Sr. of West Harwich, MA, formerly of Wilton, CT, due to heart complications. He is survived by his devoted wife, Justine (Jessie), their six children: Susan Quinn, Jerry Quinn, Jr., Kathleen (Katy) Quinn, Brian Quinn (and spouse Kathy), Maggie Bochanis (and spouse John) and Kara Quinn. He will be missed by his twelve adoring grandchildren: Megan, Christian, Grace, Nick, Gus, Justin, Brendan, Connor, Fionbar, Ronan, Teige and Eamon by whom he was affectionately called 'Pop Pop' .
Gerald was born in New York City and later settled in CT for most of his adult married life, residing in Wilton for 50 years. Last April, he and Justine moved to West Harwich, MA to settle in permanently.
Proud to be educated by the Jesuits, he attended Cranwell Preparatory School and went on to graduate from Boston College. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Air Force Reserve in Texas. He had a successful career working in commercial construction for his family's business and later on his own. Always looking to give back, he volunteered at the Dorothy Day Homeless shelter for over fifteen years. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, sailing, skiing, tennis and golf. Gerald was proud of his dual Irish citizenship and his Irish passport.
He was known for his jovial, upbeat personality and was always ready for a good time, whether it be a party or a game of bridge. He was also noted for his love of music, operatic and Irish. He frequently charmed us all by bursting into song in his beautiful tenor voice. Above all, he was known as a loving husband, father and grandfather, closing each conversation with "Love you, dear."
Gerald will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
There will be a wake at Bolton Funeral Home, 31 Church Street, Wilton (Georgetown), CT on Thursday February 1, 2018 with visiting hours from 4:00-7:00PM, followed by a Funeral Service on February 2, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church, 30 Church Street, Redding, CT at 11 am with a reception to follow.
