W. HYANNISPORT- Claire M. Fraser, 91, died peacefully on Thursday, April 26th at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brewster. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Fraser with whom she shared 44 years of marriage until his passing in 2000.
Born in Boston on July 27, 1926, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Magner. She lived in Brighton as a child, and spent many wonderful summers in Worcester with her favorite aunts. Claire earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Teachers College of the City of Boston and a Masters degree from the University of Massachusetts. She was an elementary school teacher for many years before her children were born, and she went back to teaching at St. Mary’s School in Melrose, MA after her children were grown.
Claire resided in Saugus for many years where she raised her family, but spent every summer in West Hyannisport, until moving to Cape Cod year-round in the early 1980’s with her husband. For a number of years before she finally retired she was the office manager for Cape and Islands Hearing Aids in Hyannis and Sandwich.
Claire enjoyed spending time each summer at Craigville Beach Association when the children were younger. She was an avid reader, and was never without a book in hand. She was also a dog lover, growing up with her much-loved Boston Terrier, Boots, and in later years enjoying the company of her own dogs and many grand-dogs that belonged to her children.
Claire is survived and will be deeply missed by her two children, Claire M. Fraser and her husband John “Jack” Kammer of Highland, MD, and Robert W. Fraser of Marstons Mills. Her family wants to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pleasant Bay Nursing Home for their compassionate care in her final days.
At Claire’s request, services have been omitted. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Centerville Public Library, 585 Main St. Centerville, MA 02632.
