Born on August 16, 1926 in Rembert, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William Daniel and Frances Alberta (Yongue) Vinson. While attending The University of South Carolina she met and married WWII Pilot Albert Niemi on February 15, 1945. They soon moved to Cape Cod to raise their family in West Yarmouth. She was a member of the Eastern Star Organization, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a volunteer for the Red Cross, and also did volunteer work for Mass Eye & Ear. In 1979 she became a Certified Nursing Assistant with Kelly Home Health Care and went on to be a dedicated caregiver for the elderly for many years. She loved cooking and collecting recipes, was an avid reader, and more than anything she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Albert Vaino Niemi, sister Sarah Virginia (Vinson) Emanuel and brother William Daniel Vinson II of Rembert, South Carolina. She leaves sons and daughters-in-law Alan and Elaine Niemi of Falmouth, Gary and Cheryl Niemi of Centerville, and daughter Brenda Jayne Niemi of Dennis, granddaughters and husbands Leanne (Niemi) and John D. Augusta Sr. of Falmouth, Kara (Niemi) and Scott Leeman of Centerville, grandson David Albert Niemi of Centerville and great-grandsons John David Augusta Jr. and Robert Brooks Leeman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Wednesday April 10th 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis. Burial will be private.
