The amazing and beloved Beverly (Weinstein) Lieberman passed away on Saturday August 27th at Pleasant Bay Nursing Home where she resided and was lovingly cared for since the Fall of 2019. Our gratitude for the special staff there is endless. Prior to this, she lived for 50 years in Hyannis in the warm and welcoming home she loved and where she created countless memories for her family and friends. She recently celebrated her 95th birthday and did so with great joy and gusto, even deciding that she would like to have a beer.
Beverly was born in Long Branch New Jersey on July 30th 1927. She was the beloved daughter of Rose (Sagowitz) and Meyer Weinstein. She was also raised and nurtured by Louise Duffy who rented a room in her household during the depression, lived to almost 100 and never left. Louise had a lasting and profound impact on Beverly, her brother Phil and the next generation.
Beverly graduated from Monmouth Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and was most proud of advocating for the Brown Report which changed the system of education for nurses. She was a pediatric nurse until she gave birth to her first child, Barry Lieberman in 1951. After Barry’s death in 1979, she returned to nursing working at Hyannis ENT as an allergy nurse for 20 years, retiring when she was 72. She so loved interacting with her allergy patients and the staff she worked with. Before working at Hyannis ENT, she provided childcare for many families on the Cape and many remained a part of her life throughout the years. Before moving to the Cape, Beverly taught preschool at Temple Beth Am in Framingham. For decades, she was a treasured member of the Cape Cod Synagogue and loved being a part of this community. She served in numerous ways and was honored by them on more than one occasion.
Beverly was the devoted and chronically worried mother of Barbara Mudd and her husband Michael Mudd of West Boylston, Allan Lieberman of Harwich and the late Barry Lieberman. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Abby Mudd and her husband Travis Briggs of San Francisco and Emily Mudd of Boston. She was crazy for them and showed her love in immeasurable ways, always making them feel special. Her wonderful brother Philip Weinstein predeceased her in March of this year. She leaves his remarkable wife, Francine Weinstein and two nephews Steven and Rob Weinsten and great nephew Kai. Beverly also leaves behind so many beloved and incredible friends who were also her family, and made her life so incredibly rich. She was an honorary mother to many. We wish we could list everyone here who became her family. She cast a wide net. Our gratitude to all of you is greater than you could possibly imagine. Beverly’s thoughtfulness and generosity were unparalleled. She once expressed that she began each day asking herself what good deeds she could do, and carried them out daily. Her heart was as wide as the ocean. Her humor was constant and sometimes outrageous. She spent more time on the phone than any human in the history of the world, only stopping at the beginning of this July as her decline began to move quickly. She seemed young even in extreme old age and as she departed this earth, making it even harder to believe she is gone. She was an avid reader and an avid bargain and thrift shopper. Final Sale, No Return. We love you forever and always Bubby. One of a kind. One in a billion.
Burial and graveside services will be held at Mosswood Cemetery on Thursday, September 1st at 10 AM. All are welcome. Shiva will be held at the home of Barbara and Michael Mudd in West Boylston on Friday and Saturday from 5 till 8:30 pm.
Donations in her memory may be made to Cape Cod Synagogue or the American Heart Fund in honor of Barry’s legacy and courage.
