Barbara Ann (Bearse) McFarland, 82, died Saturday, January 19th,2013 at the Pavilion Nursing Home in Hyannis. Barbara was born on Oak Neck Rd in Hyannis, MA to the late Charles H. Bearse of Hyannis and Lauretta S. (Montcalm) Bearse of Yarmouth. Barbara graduated from Barnstable High School in 1948. While in school she worked at the Center Movie Theater in Hyannis. Later she worked as an operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph in Hyannis. After being the best stay at home Mom for 30 years she went back to work for 20 years as a self-employed title researcher at the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds. Barbarawas also a professional genealogist who researched mainly Cape Cod families. She belonged to many historical societies, including the Nickerson Family and was a member of The Sturgis Library Genealogy Association. Her research was extensive and helped many families tracetheir roots to the Mayflower and beyond. She is survived by her husband, Marine 1st Sergeant David Michael McFarland ,retired, of Hyannis, two daughters, Marjorie A. White of Cotuit and Shirley A. Holway of Hyannis, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.She is predeceased by her brother, Charles H. Bearse Jr. and her daughter Veronica JaneMcFarland , both of Hyannis.Visitation will be Friday, January 25th from 10 -11 am, at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home,160 W.Main st, Hyannis, MA. Her graveside service will follow at 11:30 am at Oak Grove Cemetery, Hyannis.
