Barbara S. Hunt of Centerville passed away peacefully on October 25, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. A native Cape Codder, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Santos. She was predeceased by her husband, William P. Hunt.
A 1959 graduate of Barnstable High School and talented clarinet player in the Barnstable Town Band, Barbara grew up in Osterville before eventually finding her forever home in Centerville. She worked for the Town of Barnstable in several departments throughout her life, her last being as a school bus monitor for Barnstable Public Schools. However, it was her role as a mom that Barbara truly shined. Made a single mother by her husband's early death, Barbara successfully raised two sons on her own. Together, they were like the “Three Musketeers” and her love for them was matched only by theirs for her. From birthdays to Christmases to a simple pizza and a movie, Barbara made family time special in her home. To them, her loss is indescribable.
Because of her wonderful work as a mom, Barbara was promoted to grandmother in 2005 with the birth of her granddaughter, Piper.
In her free time, Barbara was an avid Bingo player. She enjoyed animals, from her cats, to the wild turkeys who repeatedly showed up on her front lawn, knowing they'd get an easy meal of bread crumbs. She loved the Boston Red Sox, rarely missing a game on television. Her fandom, however, did not extend to all local sports teams; for reasons known only to herself, she magically became a fan of any team that was playing the New England Patriots on any given Sunday.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Craig R. Hunt and his wife Nora C. Monteiro-Hunt of Centerville, and Brian D. Hunt of Centerville. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Piper M. Hunt of Centerville.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at Doane Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, on Saturday, November 5th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. funeral prayer service. Burial will follow at Mosswood Cemetery, 280 Putnam Ave., Cotuit, MA.
