Amelie J. Findlay, age 89, passed away on July 1st at McCarthy Hospice House with her family present. She is survived by Hugh Findlay, her husband of 69 years. Her 3 children Alan Findlay (Sandra), Martha Findlay (Rod), Lois Adams (Wayne). 2 grandchildren Dawn Mello (Rob), Erica Barrett (Dennis), and 3 great-grandchildren Logan and Maxwell Barrett, and Keaghan Mello.
She graduated from Taunton High. While in high school she was the first female employee of the First National Stores of Providence, since most young men went to the factories during the war.
Hugh and Amelie moved to Cape Cod in 1950.
Prior to that she was an X-ray Technician at Sturdy Memorial Hospital & Lahey Clinic.
Her careers on Cape Cod consisted of Cape Cod Hospital, McLellan's Dept Store, Mayflower Restaurant, Mooring Sea Grill, Cummaquid Inn, Hyannis Harbor Tours, Hy-line Cruises, Ships Bell Restaurant. She was the second female School Bus Driver in the Town of Barnstable. Hugh and Amelie ran the snack bar at the Kennedy Rink for 6 years. She worked in the office at the Hyannis Yacht Club.
In 1962 they both got their insurance licenses and started an independent agency. It is still in business today as Olde Cape Cod Insurance Agency.
As a young girl in Taunton she was active in Scouting, Queens of Avalon, and Rainbow Girls, and church. She was a trained singer and loved to perform.
On Moving to Hyannis she became active in the Junior Women's Club, and the Federated Church of Hyannis where she served on committees and was an officer, the Campfire Girls, and Boy Scouts receiving an Oscar.
She served as a Town Meeting Member. She was a poll worker and the Warden of Precinct 3 for forty-five years.
She did all of this while being married for 69 years raising 3 children.
The Love of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ helped her through all her life.

Memorial visitation will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 W Main St, Hyannis from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, July 13th. Memorial service will be held at the Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main St, Hyannis, at 11:00am on Saturday, July 14th. Burial will be private.
