Mr. Wooley, the son of Jesse Gordon Wooley, Sr. and Leona Alice Smith, was born August 30, 1932 in Galena Park, Texas. Fraternal grandparents were William W. Wooley and Lucrica Lula Daniel and maternal grandparents were James Bernard Smith and Alice Alene Brown.
A graduate of Willis High School, Mr. Wooley joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant, and continued to serve his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve until his honorable discharge on January 31, 1961. On June 30, 1953, he married Bernice Merle Flournoy in Huntsville, Texas. They made their home in Houston and Conroe until moving to Riverside in 1970, where Mr. Wooley was a businessman for the next 37 years. In addition, Mr. Wooley served as fire chief for the Riverside Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Mr. Wooley is survived by Merle Wooley, son Ronald D. Wooley and wife Lisa, son Darrell G. Wooley and wife Sandra, daughter Kathy L. Todd and husband James, and son Dennis L. Wooley. Other survivors include grandchildren Cheryl Housley, Lauren Johnson and husband Jeffrey, Candice Wooley, Jacob Wooley, Katy Wooley, Scott Wooley, Jamie Todd, and Misty Widner. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Megan Wooley, Brandy Dancer, Travion Housley, Trachelle Housley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mr. Wooley in death were his son, Charles G. “Chuck” Wooley, granddaughter Autumn G. Todd, and sisters Rena Adamick, Alene Stevenson, and Shirley Gilley.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, October 1, 2010 also at Huntsville Funeral Home.
