Mr. William Royce Sweetman, 91, of Huntsville passed away on Friday at his home. He was born and raised in Oklahoma before serving in the United States Airforce during the Korean War. He worked in Huntsville as a logistics engineer on Redstone Arsenal until retirement. Even though retired, he continued to work at Colsa for 4 years. He loved making jewelry and he and his wife started BSweet Gem and Mineral for his wire sculptured jewelry. They also traveled throughout many states meeting others in their trade.
William was a giving, caring, and loving Christian man who was a longtime member of University Baptist Church. He was active in the Alabama Baptist Association as a Deacon and also did missionary work in Ecuador. He served for many years handing out bibles with the Gideon’s Association.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Peggy Joyce Jones Sweetman, parents, W.M. Sweetman and Ada Maddox Sweetman, and by his siblings Betty Russell, Ronnie Sweetman, and Glenn Sweetman.
Surviving family members include his son; William A. Sweetman (Kelli), daughter; Beth Catterton (Joel), grandchildren; Kala Massey Lamb (Shawn), Tyler Jenkins (Paige), and Kirkleigh Sweetman, great-grandchildren, Serenity 'Reni' and Elise 'Ellie'.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 7 at 1:00-2:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral home in Huntsville, Al. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm.
