Sheila Strickland Townsend

Sheila Strickland Townsend, 62 of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at her home. Sheila was preceded in death by her mother, Glenda Strickland; brother, Darwood Strickland; niece, Kaloni Roberts.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Randy Townsend; father, James Strickland; sister, Alesia Jefferson; brother, Garland Strickland; nieces, Pamela Rice, Latitia Jefferson, Brandi Fernandez; nephews, Jordan Townsend, Chris Townsend, Ryan Townsend, John Grammer, Manny Strickland, Kerry Strickland; great nieces, McKenzie, Julia, Abigail, Danielle, Kiara, Isabella, and another one on the way, Nora; great nephews, Jaxton, Caleb, Jace, Gabriel, Cooper, Zachary.

Sheila loved her family with all of her heart. She knew each family member’s birthday from memory, and always was sure to send cards and gifts every year. One of her favorite things to do was to cook. She was an excellent baker, and during the holidays, was known to make 53 dozen cookies. Randy asked her to not make as many, so she cut it down to 52 dozen. She always made the best fudge, and it was a family favorite. One of the other favorites for her nephews was her mashed potatoes. They only wanted Aunt Sheila’s!

Sheila loved the Balloon Festival in Decatur. She also enjoyed going to thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales. She and Randy would often visit the Nickajack Dam to enjoy nature and the fall leaves. On their 40th wedding anniversary, they took a trip to the Smokey Mountains. Sheila loved life, and the beauty of nature. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

You may visit with the family on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Valhalla Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00am in Valhalla’s Chapel.
