Ruth Boyd Friday

Ruth Boyd Friday, age 95 of Huntsville, Al passed away peacefully at her home on July 20,2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Boaz, Al in 1929. It was there that met and married Floyd G Smith in 1951 and they moved to Huntsville in 1959. In 1958 they welcomed their only son, Marc B Smith and unfortunately Floyd passed away in 1970.

While living in Huntsville, Ruth became an active member of Epworth Methodist Church in 1960. She also worked in the personnel department for Nasa for more than 30 years and that is where she retired. During her time at Nasa She met Edward Friday who would become her second husband. Ruth and Ed were married for 42 years and enjoyed a wonderful life together.

Ruth was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. No one was a more dedicated Atlanta Braves Fan than our Ruth. She spent countless hours cheering them on for years. She was such a delight to be around, sweet and kind and a great sense of humor. She will be missed by so many loved ones including her friends and neighbors who were always there for her throughout her life’s journey.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Olan H. Boyd and Pearl Mae Boyd, brother Billy J Boyd and brother Jack H. Boyd.

She is survived by her son, Marc B. Smith, wife Diana, her grandson Colton G Smith, nephews Scott Boyd, Don Boyd and Mike Boyd, Her nieces Laura Craig, Amy Boyd, and Amanda Jill Smith.

The family would like to express our thanks to the wonderful help and care given by Hospice Family Care of Huntsville Hospital.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 22nd, 2024 at 2:00PM at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Ruth will be laid to rest in the Chapel of Love Court.
