Robert Lewis Stewart went home to Jesus on April 18, 2025 at age 77. He was born to James Lewis and Dorothy Faye Stewart on May 29, 1947 in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Jones Valley High School in 1965 and the University of Alabama in 1970 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He worked for Northrop Grumman and TRW and worked on the Apollo 11 moon mission, Skylab, the space shuttle, and many other projects. He retired in 2015.
Robert met his wife, Brenda, in 1971 at Jackson Way Baptist Church. They married on June 22, 1974 and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. They had two children, Tammy and Ryan.
In addition to being a dedicated husband, father, and Pop, Robert enjoyed being a member and officer of NARCA (North Alabama Radio Controlled Association). His passion was flying radio-controlled airplanes. He also enjoyed building and fixing things and was a “jack-of-all-trades”. He liked grilling, fishing, vacationing in different places, and going to musicals with his wife. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Robert was a member of Jackson Way Baptist Church for over 50 years where he also taught preschool and children’s Sunday School with his beloved wife and served as a deacon. Decades of children loved being taught by “Mr. Robert”. His warm personality and infectious smile showed his deep love for Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis and Dorothy Faye Stewart, in-laws, Darwin and Francis Wiseman, and nephew, Tim Stewart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Brenda Stewart; children Tammy Eanes (Ricky) and Ryan Stewart (Tracy); grandchildren Katelyn, Kayla, Caleb, and Audrey; brother Allen Stewart and sister Judy Stewart (Rick Nicholas); sisters-in-law, Gloria McDaris (Creed) and Phyllis Smith (Brian); nieces Shanna Shaw (Joe) and Melissa Davis (Bart), great nieces and nephews Abbi, Luke, Casen, and Zoe.
Visitation will be held at Jackson Way Baptist Church on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 12:30 to 2:15 PM with a celebration service to follow at 2:30 PM at Jackson Way Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL. Graveside service will immediately follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens on Winchester Road.
