He was most proud of being a Korean War Veteran, of his children and grandchildren. After his wartime service, he worked for dental supply companies in Chattanooga, TN and Huntsville, AL.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn; his son, DeWayne Richard Smart; daughters, Danelle Carolyn Carlton and Diane Susan Hawkins, all of Huntsville; his oldest daughter, Dawna Lynn Rhoades of Daytona Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Ben and Deanna Rhoades, David, Derek and Dylan Carlton, Tiffany and Roy Hawkins.
His long request was that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Downtown Rescue Mission, 1400 Evangel Drive NW, Huntsville, AL 35816.
You may visit with the family on Sunday, May 17, 2020 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Valhalla Memory Gardens in the Chapel of Love. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00pm. Entombment will immediately follow in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum.
