Born in Brownsboro, Alabama, Madison County, Marie was a graduate of Hazel Green High School, after which she trained in dental assisting and office management. Most of her working career was in the offices of Huntsville dentists, 29 of those years for Dr. Paul L. Reese, MD, DMD. She was active in the Huntsville Philatelic Club and had been a stamp collector from the time of her youth.
During the time when her daughters were young she volunteered as a Red Cross Nurse in the school clinic at East Clinton Elementary School.
Marie had a love and passion for music oftentimes filling in at local churches as a pianist or organist. For a time she was a pianist at Winchester Road Baptist Church. When she was not playing, she sang in the church choir. After retiring she joined 1st United Methodist Church in Huntsville, AL and for a time, while her health allowed, participated in the activities for seniors. She also loved to help put together lunches that would be sent out to the local schools for the teachers to give to students with food insecurities.
In February of 2020 Marie moved to Hoover, AL where she made her home until her passing.
She was preceded in death by an older brother: James Harvil Nichols, Jr., a younger brother: Gerald Graham Nichols, father: James Harvil Nichols, mother: Janie Mae Clark Nichols.
She is survived by her 2 daughters: Charlsie Melissa Elliott (Ed) Wertz of Hoover, AL and Cynthia Jo Elliott of Huntsville, AL; 3 sisters: Mary Katherine Nichols (Gene) Omasta of Troy, AL, Shirley Ann Nichols (Bob) Stephenson of Jefferson City, MO, Maggie Frances Nichols (Vern) Morse of Smyrna, TN; grandchildren: Joshua David Valadez of Huntsville, AL, Mary Esther Wertz of Hoover, AL, Jonathan Caleb Valadez of Huntsville, AL.
