Juanita Isbell Hillis, 74, of Huntsville, AL passed away November 30, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born February 9, 1947 to Cloyace and Lora Isbell of Tuscumbia, AL. She was married to Charles Hillis of Huntsville, AL until his death in 2017. Mrs. Hillis was a retired educator for Huntsville City Schools and served in various positions to include principal of Monte Sano Elementary and Whitesburg Elementary School; librarian for Calvary Hill Elementary School, Ed White Middle School, and Lee High School. She was a proud member of Kappa Delta Pi educational honor society. She received a B.S. degree in education from the University of Alabama in addition to a Master's Degree and Ed.S. from Alabama A & M University. She was an avid Alabama fan and member of the University of Alabama Alumni Association. Mr. and Mrs. Hillis frequently attended Alabama football games for over (40) years.
She is survived by her son Phillip Hillis (Kathye)- Birmingham, AL; daughter, Melinda Hillis Maxwell (Mike) - Athens, AL; sisters - Carolene Wu - Huntsville, AL; Marie Dunn- Opelika, AL; brother-in-law Bernard Gene Hillis; sister-in-law Kay Hillis; (2) granddaughters - Shelby Dye (Hayden) and Kelsey Hillis; (2) grandsons- Austin Hillis (Mary) and Garrett Maxwell; (4) great grandsons - John Hillis, Levi Hillis, Walker Dye, and Ryder Dye. Nephews - Wayland Lee Dunn (Stacey), Nick Wu (Vivian), Tony Wu, and Jeff Wu; Nieces - Lisa Meloy (Tim), Kim Jennings (Don), Jeanne James (Chris) and several great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Chris James, C.J. James, Hayden Dye, Buddy Isbell, Shawn Nochumson, and Phil Cook. Visitation will be Sunday, December 5th at Valhalla Funeral home from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. with funeral immediately following visitation. Burial will be in the Valhalla Memory Garden in the Everlasting Garden.
