John Christian Pontius, Jr., passed on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital. He was 75 years old. John was born in Memphis, TN on January 14, 1949 to Nancy Caroline Pontius (Taylor) and John Christian Pontius, Sr.. The family moved to Venice, FL when he was 10 years old. He and his young family moved to Huntsville, AL in 1981 to pursue his successful civil engineering career.
John was known as Chris by friends and family. His free time was spent with his family, traveling and enjoying outdoor adventure, swimming, and music. He was an avid daily walker, meditator, and reader. He enjoyed sports, and could be found revelling in his son and daughter’s youth league, high school, and collegiate games. He was a proud donor to Defenders of Wildlife, World Wildlife Fund and Sierra Club. He was a protector of both nature conservation and wildlife and valued education, creativity, and respect for all living things.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Pontius and son Taylor Pontius, daughter Christen Pontius, and older sister Nancy Pontius Moore.
