John Ernest McGee

John Ernest McGee, age 89, of Madison, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. He was known as John in Alabama and as Ernest by his family. John was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Blanche McGee, along with 8 siblings.

John is survived by his son, Jeffrey Kevin McGee; daughter, Cathleen Erin McGee Tapscott (David); two grandsons, Patrick Garrison Tapscott, Preston Miles Tapscott (Matt Mattard); Granddaughter, Alyssa Jeannie McGee Nixon (Payne); great grandson, Eli Fitzgerald Nixon; sister, Doris Lou McGee Robinson along with countless nieces and nephews.

John served his country as a United States Marine. He loved getting to know his great grandson, Eli. He also enjoyed hand feeding squirrels peanut butter crackers at his kitchen windows. He was best known for his famous hand churned vanilla ice cream at family gatherings. John was always the first to laugh and kept all of us laughing until we cried. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation for John will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will occur Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 2:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home in Valhalla's Celebration Chapel.
