James C. Kent, 91, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2019, at the Bill Nichols State Veteran’s Home in Alexander City, AL. J.C or Jimmy, as he was called by friends and family, was born to Andrew and Ona (Powell) Kent on August 29, 1927 in Blue Mountain, MS, where he grew up on a large farm. He was a 50+ year resident of New Hope.
For many years of his career, he worked in construction on various projects in the area as well as out of state. Even so, he made sure to be present for activities in his family’s lives. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife all over the U.S., cultivating a large garden (much of which he gave away), being active in his church, and especially visiting people in the hospital to sit with families while their family members underwent surgery. He was always interested in being a helper to others in need.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of almost 58 years, Rosa (Hall) Kent. He is survived by his son Dwight Kent of Monroeville, PA; his daughter Kim Tilton of Lambertville, NJ; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held June 6, 1:00 – 2:00 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm, both at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 700 Winchester Road N.E., Huntsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bill Nichols State Veterans Home, 1784 Elkahatchee Road, Alexander City, AL 35010.
