Mrs Jane Parker Smith, 80, died April 12, 2016 after a lengthy but strong and courageous struggle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents - Hobart and Lilly Mae Parker of Birmingham Alabama and survived by a very loving family who will miss her deeply. This includes her husband of 58 years Lewis Dal Smith, her three sons; Dal (Birmingham), Mark (Huntsville), and Scott (Panama City Beach) and daughter-in-law’s Therese (Mark) and Renee (Scott); her grandchildren Ashley, Lauren, Evan, Kelsey, Darren, and Brittany; her sister-in-law Doris Prince and her nephew John. She was so very proud of all her children and grandchildren loving them all very much. Jane was a lifelong educator becoming a teacher after graduating from her beloved Auburn University (War Eagle) where she was a member of AOP sorority. She taught many years in the Huntsville area and finished her career in upstate New York (Vestal and Appalachian) where she and Dal lived for 15 plus years after they transferred there from Huntsville with IBM.
One of her best and biggest attributes was she never met a stranger and was always willing to strike up a conversation with anyone at any time! This endeared her to many as she made and maintained many lifelong friendships from her time in New York and Huntsville which includes her many lifelong friends, as well as their many lovely friends and neighbors in Hampton Cove. She was a faithful member of Twickenham Church of Christ. She enjoyed her church family and the many trips they took together exploring the US. Those times were very special and gave her many great memories. In later years much time was spent on the water at Little Mountain State Park in Guntersville where she and Dal enjoyed many more special friendships and great times with family and friends. She was a wonderful wife to her husband and awesome mother and grandmother and will be hugely missed by all. In lieu of flowers donation to American Cancer Society in her name.
Graveside services will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10:00 am at Valhalla Memory Garden in the Masonic Garden.
