Chief Warrant Officer 4 (Retired) James Timothy “Tim” Edwards, 64, of Huntsville, Alabama passed onto his next journey on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, at 8:30pm after bravely fighting cancer. He was at home surrounded by his wife of 39 years, Lydia, son Björn, and their German Shepherd, Mason.
Tim started this amazing life on February 21st, 1959, in Knoxville, Tennessee. A 21-year career in the United States Army’s Field Artillery, and 20 years in the defense industry took him all over the world including Germany, Oklahoma, Korea, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Virginia, and Alabama. In his heart though, Tim always called the Great Smoky Mountains home.
Tim took pleasure in everything he did, whether it was finding the love of his life in Germany in 1983, serving with the Freemasons volunteer service organization, bluffing his way through a monthly poker game for 20 years, teaching his dog Mason search and rescue tracking techniques, cruising backroads with friends on their Harleys or simply sharing a great meal and a nice bottle of wine. Of course, Tim relished reliving these experiences with a great story, stretching out the details and interspersing it with humor. Tim was an active member of the Redstone Huntsville Chapter of the Association of the United States Army since relocating to Huntsville. His passion was supporting the chapter's scholarship program. He brought new ideas and enthusiasm to his volunteer work with the many AUSA chapters he was a part of, always giving back to the U.S. Army family.
Tim was predeceased by his parents James Alfred and Jean Florence Edwards, sister Laura, and is survived by his wife Lydia, son Björn, daughter-in-law Ramona, grandson Max, in-laws Bernd and Wilma Perske, his brother in-laws Oliver, Alexander, Lothar, and Boris, his nephew Will Root, and aunt Joyce Rogers.
Services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Decatur, Alabama on October 14th, 2023. Visitation will be from 12pm until 1pm. The celebration of life memorial service will begin at 1pm.
