Ann was a beloved wife, mother of four, and “Granny” to eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was born February 2, 1935; adopted by George and Vivian Wallace of Gurley, Alabama while she was still an infant; and grew up in Hurricane Valley. She married Merle Carter and lived an abundant life with him for 64 years. On the morning of her passing, Merle was heard to say, “She really loved me.”
Everyone who shared her life knew that she loved them, also. She showed her love and pride to every friend, child, grandchild, and great-grandchild in her family, making sure to end every interaction with her favorite words, “I love you!” At large family gatherings in recent years, she would stand back, look at the group, give Merle a big hug, and say “Look what we did.”
Ann is survived by husband Merle Ray Carter; children Donna Lamb Bowyer (Don Bowyer), Melanie Coffman (Jimmy Coffman), Melissa Vann (Steve Vann), and Johnathan Carter (Barbara Carter). She is survived by grandchildren April White, Kristy Rossi, Andy Coffman, Brian Coffman, Adrienne Moon, Joshua Carter, Brooke Young, and Jared Carter. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Ashton Coffman, Kendall Young, Zachary White, Elijah Moon, Vivian Coffman, Leah Moon, Saylor Young, Moses Coffman, Carter Rossi, Jack Carter, Cora Coffman, and Sarah Moon.
Ann was a long-time member of Hurricane Primitive Baptist Church. Her final wish was to have her ashes and dust sprinkled upon the rolling hills of the Wallace family farm in Hurricane Valley.
A memorial service will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home on September 23, 2020, at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kids to Love Foundation, Huntsville, Alabama, or Food Bank of North Alabama.
