Doris Lillian Haddox, 92, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on November 4, 2023. Doris was born in Otter Creek, Florida to Talmadge and Grace Watson on August 25, 1931. She was later adopted by Thomas and Pearl Stubbs in 1937 and lived in Cherry Lake, Florida. Growing up she helped her mother and daddy with farming, cooking, and taking care of their animals. She spent many happy days riding her horse “Trixie” and going on adventures around their farm. The Stubb’s tobacco barn housed the surplus of their neighbor’s crop and Bob, the neighbor’s son just home from the Navy, met Doris there. She married Bob in 1947 and raised four children. They lived in Quitman, GA; Jacksonville, FL; Panama City, FL and finally moved to Huntsville, AL in 1960.
Early in their marriage Doris worked at a clothing store in Madison, FL. She became a skilled seamstress, and fashioned many garments and costumes for her family and herself over the years. She enjoyed volunteering and served as a Den Mother and Brownie Leader for her children. She also enjoyed crocheting and tending to their backyard garden which produced food for her entire family for decades. She was a wonderful cook, always providing delicious dishes for family gatherings and holidays. Doris was known for her famous chocolate angel strata pie and pound cake, both enjoyed and requested by many. Other family favorites included her red velvet cake and peanut butter pie. Doris loved African violets and spent many hours tending to her rose bushes, gardenias, and althea’s.
Family always came first for Doris and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Doris and Bob were lifelong members of Lakewood Baptist Church, and they developed lasting friendships with their neighbors in the Lakewood Community.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Robert Arthur Haddox and her son Randal Haddox. She is survived by her sons Robert Haddox, Jr. and Jeffery Haddox (Marjorie Haddox), daughter Teresa Foster (Steven Foster), and grandchildren Jennifer Haddox, Christina Haddox, Hayley Haddox, Rachel Foster, and Shelby Haddox.
Anyone who knew and loved Doris is welcomed to visit with the family at 11am on November 8th, at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. Services will be officiated by Dr. Bobby Burt at 12pm. Doris will be laid to rest next to her spouse of 65 years at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
