Catherine Adam Wood was born July 31, 1924, in Brisbane Australia. She passed away on February 22, 2024. Catherine grew up in Brisbane, graduated from Queensland Teacher’s College in Brisbane and taught school in a one room school for grades 1 to 12. Catherine met her husband, Lewis Price Wood in Brisbane during World War II where he was stationed. They married in Brisbane in 1944 and at the end of WWII she followed Lewis to the United States and lived in Davidson, North Caroline.
Catherine and Lewis moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1952 where Lewis began working for NASDA on the space project. Both Catherine and Lewis were lifelong Presbyterians and together they were two of the founding members of Faith Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. She taught Sunday School and Bible School until she was in her 80’s. She was an expert china painter and volunteered at the Huntsville Senior Center teaching china painting. She was nominated twice for Huntsville Volunteer of the Year. Catherine leaves behind a daughter, Elizabeth (Betty), and a son Lewis, 4 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The Memorial Service will be held on March 2 at 11:00 at Dignity Memorial, 698 Winchester Rd, Huntsville. Memorials can be sent to Faith Presbyterian Church in Huntsville or Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega, AL.
Graveside service for Catherine will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811.
