Bruce was born in Muscatine, Iowa on July 9, 1927 to Albert Enoch and Lula Mae Bruce Sparling. The family then moved to Crystal City, Missouri where Albert Sparling was the Superintendent of Schools. Bruce attended school in Crystal City, Missouri.
He skipped his senior year in High School and proudly served his country. Bruce was an honorably discharged World War II Veteran. After he was discharged from the Navy, he went to work at the Navy Yard in Bethesda, Maryland. He then took a job with the Department of the Army on Redstone Arsenal and moved the family to Huntsville in 1960.
He then went back to school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Athens State College. He was a devoted member of Lakewood Methodist Church (Mastin Lake Road, Huntsville) and was also a member of the Shriners and a 32nd Degree Mason.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Martha Washington Sparling, his parents; three brothers Vic, Harold and Paul and one sister Lois Schilling.
He is survived by his second wife, Lorena Downs Sparling; daughter, Edith Atchley and son, Bruce Edward Sparling and they will forever cherish Bruce’s giving spirit and love of telling stories. He is also survived by granddaughters, Jennifer Brewer and Samantha Griffin; great granddaughters, Sarah Brewer, Isabella Brewer and Ryleigh Griffin.
