Benjamin Clayton Smith, Sr. age 88 of Huntsville passed away on August 7, 2014. Mr. Smith was a decorated Navy Veteran serving during WWII in the Pacific Theater and then later deployed with the Army National Guard in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret Thompson. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters: Sandra Lee, Debra Gallaher and her husband Charles, son; Ben Smith, Jr. and his wife Loretta, grandchildren; Zachary J. Fisher, Nicholas I. Fisher, Amber G Hampton, Ashley R. Smith, Erica N. Clem, Devin C. Ownby, Sean T. Cannon, Amos A. Gallaher, great grandchildren; Jacob Miller, Audrey Ellis, Ethan Hampton, brothers; George Smith, Jerry Smith and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was loved by all who knew him. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Valhalla Funeral Home at 4:00 P.M with interment to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 PM until service time.
