Julia Rolston Hampton, 78, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 15, 2014 in the healthcare unit at Woodlands Retirement Community. Julia was born in Staunton, Virginia on August 21, 1936, a daughter of the late Holmes Rolston II and Mary Winifred Long. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Gray Watson Hampton, Jr. Julia was a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, NC and received a Masters in Elementary Education with a certificate for teaching Talented and Gifted from Marshall University. Julia’s love of children and passion for education was evident in her work. She taught the Talented & Gifted program at Miller Elementary for over 30 years, where she had a profound impact on many students lives by inspiring them with a love for learning. Julia retired from teaching in 2007. Julia is survived by her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren: Gray Watson Hampton III and his wife Lauren Astrid Hampton; David Rolston Hampton and his wife Sara Mahood Hampton; Mary Lucile Daly, her husband Michael Joseph Daly and their sons, Michael Gray Daly and Tyler Joseph Daly; and Jacqueline Ruth Hampton. She is also survived by her siblings: her brother Holmes Rolston III and his wife Jane Wilson Rolston, and her sister Jacqueline Rolston Thompson and her husband Ernest Trice Thompson, Jr. Services will be held Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, West Virginia, officiated by the Reverend Skip Seibel. A gathering of family and friends will be held afterwards in the Friendship Hall. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
