Ross J. Hoy, 84 of Huntington passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Lutheran Hospital. He was a WWII Army veteran. He was a boxer in the Cincinnati area where he held the Welter Weight Golden Gloves Championship. He had worked at Bartlett Tree Service for over 50 years, most recently as district manager, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a member of the National Arborist Association and past president of the Indiana State Arborist Association. He was a former member of the Epworth Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman.
He was born on January 17, 1928 in Lancaster, Ohio, a son of Jacob and Helen (Mauller) Hoy.
He was united in marriage to Ida M. Vanperson in October 1946 in Greenup, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on August 31, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter: Bee (Gary) Miller of Huntington; a son: Steve (Sue) Hoy of Fort Wayne; a sister: Francis Thompson of Lancaster, OH; four grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Paul Hoy.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Interment will be at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
