Joyce A. Smith

Joyce A. Smith, 77 of Huntington passed away at 10:24 am on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Joyce was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and growing her own flowers and vegetables, she enjoyed canning the fruits of her labors. She loved listening to music and supported her late husband, James’ country western band. She earned the nickname “Perky”. She loved her grandchildren and she loved to go camping.

Joyce was born on May 16, 1938 in London, Kentucky, a daughter of John F. and Cynthia J. (Church) Smith.

She was united in marriage to James N. Smith in Fort Wayne. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2011.

Survivors include three sons: Robert Smith of Wells County; Michael (Jacque) Heller of Huntington; Wesley Heller of Huntington; three daughters: Kathy (Marvin) Sims of Columbia City; Sharon (Raymond) Clark of Huntington; Tammy (Sean) Stanley of Huntington; two brothers: O’Neil Smith of Dayton, TN; Arthur Thomas Smith of Huntington; a sister: Ruby Hibbert of Gary, IN; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Vicki Heller, three brothers: Chester Smith, James Wesley Smith, Johnny Smith and two great grandchildren: Dallas “Rae” Jean Clay and Brandon Smith.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 9, 2015 following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Jimi Staton officiating.

Interment will be at the Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington County.
