Jeannie was born on April 22, 1934 in Gallipolis Ohio the daughter of the late Lewis and Maude (Angel) Persinger.
Jeannie spent her childhood in Gallipolis with her parents, five sisters and one brother. She was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School in 1952. After school she moved to Columbus, Ohio and worked as a Secretary and Receptionist for the Department of Natural Resources, and later working in Quality Control for General Tire.
She met Caroll S. “Doc” Stottlemyer at a YMCA dance, while he was attending Veterinary School at Ohio State. They married one week after his graduation in Columbus on June 16, 1956 and moved to Mechanicsburg, Ohio. They were married for 50 years.
Their first adventure began as Doc served in the Air Force in Taipei, Taiwan from 1957 to 1959. Jeannie and Doc lived near base, and welcomed their first daughter Cindy in 1958.
After the service, Jeannie and Doc worked at a Veterinary practice in Summitville, Indiana for five years. Their second daughter Karen was born in 1961.
The family moved to Wabash where Doc purchased Wabash Veterinary Hospital. They owned and operated the practice for 21 years. Through the years Jeannie joined the staff in multiple positions including Secretary, Receptionist, and Surgical Nurse. She was an Active member of Wabash Christian Church during their time in Wabash.
They moved to Goshen in 1985 for new ventures, and began enjoying retirement in 1996. Jeannie liked to keep busy with travels and volunteer work.
Her favorite trips included walking the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day, Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, Bonita Springs, and Mount Rushmore.
She was an active community volunteer in Goshen. She installed lifelines for Goshen General hospital, delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered for Salvation Army, and was an active member and volunteer at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
Jeannie was an intense competitor, who hated to lose. She loved challenging friends and family to games of Euchre and Scrabble. In her spare time she enjoyed collecting quilts, antique shopping, cooking, spending time with family and friends and watching sports.
Jeannie moved to Huntington in 2008 to be closer to family following Doc’s passing in 2007.
Survivors include two daughters: Karen (Stephen) Brodt of LaFontaine, Cindy Hughes of Findlay, Ohio; four grandchildren: Kristen (Justin) Lovell, Ryan (Rina) Brodt, Ashley Hughes, and Justin Hughes; seven great-grandchildren: Annika Lovell, Adreonna Lovell, Sawyer Lovell, Louis Brodt, Eli Hughes, Liam Hughes, and Rosalia Brodt; and a sister Julia (Roy) Mullins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and siblings: Eleanor Setterfield, Dorothy Parsons, Lucy Hinkle, Janis Young, and Lewis Persinger; a son-in-law: Donald Hughes; and a great granddaughter Violet Lovell.
Visitation will take place on January 30, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. at the Wabash Christian Church located at 110 W. Hill Street, Wabash, IN 46992
Funeral services will take place on January 31, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wabash Christian Church located at 110 W. Hill Street, Wabash, IN 46992
Interment will be at the Friends Cemetery in Wabash
