I am sorry to take so long to offer my condolences on the passing of
Doris.  She was a very special lady, and I was honored and blessed to call her my friend.  We shared some special times.  I enjoyed our conversations about many things.  Beth Ickes, fellow volunteer at Lutheran Hospital.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Doris Ellen was a friend of my sister, June Best Nowels for her whole life. In fact my parents, Burl and Gladys Best, were neighbors and good friends of her parents when they lived across from each other on Wright St. I have pictures of the baby girls picnicking with their proud parents. And remember fondly how generous she was to share her pony as a girl! She was a lovely person.

I have many fond memories of learning to be a majorettte for the HTHS marching band under her guidance. My heartfelt sympathy to Becky and all the family.

We will always remember Doris for her vitality and quick wit and our shared love of horses.  We rode many a mile with her down the trails in Salamonie, Brown County, Hoosier National Forest and Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois.  There is even a tie-up spot in Shawnee named after her because she rolled backwards down a hill off of a log while taking a break from the saddle!  A more lively and hard-working horsewoman could not be found and I'm certain she didn't transition easily to living with assistance.  We sure had lots of good times around the campfire and we'll miss her ready laugh and hugs.  I'm sorry that we had lost touch in recent years; I hope she remembered how much we cared for her.

Doris was a special family friend and we have many wonderful memories of fun times together.  With deepest sympathy from The Hines Family.

Aunt Doris put me on a horse for my first time (and put me back on the horse after I fell off).  She also gave me a life time of memories from our summer vacation out west.  Most of the family will remember this as the trip I got left behind on.  She was a very dear Aunt to me and I am thankful for my memories with her.  Becky, Rick, Rod & Randy, our thoughts and prayers are with you & your families.  Love Tami & Wally.

Becky, your suspicions are correct.  I'm typing this from Hawaii.  My first trip here was with Doris.  We actually shared a hotel room for 2 weeks.  LOL.

Hang in there.  With each day, it'll get better.

Aunt Doris as she was to me was my favorite Aunt and one that took me to my first movie there in Huntington. As you can imagine that was many many years ago during WWII and we walked into town. 15 cents was the going price. Hard to believe. Becky, Ricky Rodney and Randy I am sorry for your loss. Rod, Becky and family, You all have my deepest sympathy. Doris was "My girl" and such a special lady. I will miss her greatly. Thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to love her and care for her while she was with us at Heritage Pointe. She will always have a special place in my heart. My sympathy to Becky and the family of Doris.   Always enjoyed Doris very much, she was such a sweet lady.   Enjoyed marching under her direction, she was so nice to all of us.  She gave me a chance to march with the band where I might not have gotten the chance.   I talked with her a few years ago at the alumini banquet.   I am glad I got the chance to see her.
