Carolyn Kay Salter, 72 of Fort Wayne and formerly of Huntington passed away at 5:08 am on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice. Kay was a 1962 graduate of Huntington High School and was a 1996 graduate of IPFW with a Purdue degree in Human Services. She worked at GTE in Fort Wayne from 1978 – 1989 in management support. She also had worked in mental health at Park Center for several years and had worked for BI-County Services in Bluffton and as a substitute teacher. She held several clerical positions over the years. She was a member of New Hope United Brethren Church and had attended Broadway Christian Church in Fort Wayne from 1998 – 2005. She was involved with NAMI while in Allen County as well as involved with church groups and Bible study.
Kay was born on July 22, 1944 in Huntington, the daughter of Lewis and Donna (Craig) Johnston.
Survivors include two daughters: Angela (Kreg) Eckert of Huntington; Mary Ann (Brad Simmers) Alexander of Larwill; a son: Joshua (Carrie) Salter of Huntington; a half-brother: Mike Black of Lady Lake, FL; a step-brother: Mike Nichols of Indianapolis; stepmother: Betty Johnston; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Lewis Johnston and Donna (Doug) Black and a half-sister: Donna Cozad.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 12:00 pm following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Amos Rawley officiating.
Interment will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Huntington County.
Memorial donations can be made out to Visiting Nurse and Hospice or to New Hope United Brethren Church both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
