Barbara L. Johnson

Barbara L. Johnson, 79 of Huntington passed away at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at The Heritage of Huntington. Barbara was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She was a member of the Beta Chi Sorority, the National and Indiana Percheron Association as well as the Chief LaFontaine Saddle Club. She volunteered at the Dan Quayle Museum.

Barbara was born on August 8, 1936 in Huntington, a daughter of Herman J. and M. Hazel (Eltzroth) Eckert.

She was united in marriage to Ralph L. Johnson on July 3, 1954 in Huntington. Her husband survives.

Additional survivors include a son: Ryan (Robin) Johnson of Huntington; five daughters: Cindy (Douglas) Spice of Huntington; Polly (Jack) Dennis of Roanoke; Karen (Arden) Anson of Roanoke; Darlene (Brent) Stanley of Huntington; Elaine (David) Felton of Huntington; two brothers: William Eckert of Fort Wayne; Robert Eckert of Wolf Lake, IN; a sister: Imogene Gressley of Huntington; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Carla Jane, a brother: Herman Eckert Jr. and a sister: Charlotte Scheiber.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm with rosary recitation at 5:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington with Father Ron Rieder officiating.

Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made out to SS Peter & Paul’s Building Fund or to the Huntington University Johnson Family Scholarship Fund both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
