Bill was born on July 2, 1926 in Hillsboro, Illinois to parents, William and Roxie (Hill) Rhodes. Immediately following graduation from Hillsboro High School, he was drafted into the Army to serve in World War II where he earned two bronze stars. Following the war, he attended University of Illinois on the GI bill. In 1950, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. Bill married his college sweetheart Clarissa Ann (Farian) in 1952, and they moved to Glen Ellen, Illinois, where he began work at SKF industries. Their two daughters, Julie and Rebecca were born in 1957 and 1959 respectively. Bill was transferred with a promotion at SKF to Philadelphia, PA in January of 1965, where the family made a home in Huntingdon Valley. Their third daughter, Amy was born in July of 1965. Bill worked for SKF as a manager of marketing research for over 30 years until his retirement. In 2003, Bill and Clarissa moved to Ann’s Choice when it first opened, as “pioneers”. Upon moving to Ann’s Choice, Bill became involved in many clubs, including the genealogy club, computer club, and the woodshop club. He enjoyed the Lifelong Learning educational series, and he attended many presentations over the years.
Bill, aka “The Clock Guy”, had many interests and hobbies. He loved traveling, golfing, genealogy and antiquing - in addition to collecting and repairing Antique Clocks. He regularly attended the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors annual conventions. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, he especially loved watching the Phillies and Eagles games. Bill and Clarissa enjoyed yearly visits to Florida to watch Phillies Spring training in Clearwater, as well as to spend time with friends on Anna Maria Island. They also cherished their travels to visiting their daughters, and always loved spending holidays and birthdays with family. Bill and Clarissa were long time members of the Huntingdon Valley United Methodist church.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Clarissa of 65 years, his parents, William and Roxie Rhodes, his sisters, Thelma Harrison and Lois Renfroe, and his daughter Julie Rhodes Schieber.
Bill is survived by daughters, Rebecca Rhodes and Amy Rhodes.
Relatives and Friends are invited to Bill’s services, Friday, May 10th, 2024, at Ann’s Choice Chapel, 3000 Ann’s Choice Way, Warminster, PA. Attendees may arrive at 10:45AM, followed by the Celebration of Life at 11:00AM. There will be a Private Family inurnment at Forest Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ann’s Choice Benevolent Care Fund.
