Soby Mary Fennell, age 45, passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2024 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family including her husband Kevin, daughters Kayla and Kristian, parents KJ and Rachel Abraham, sisters Cindy and Sandy and their husbands Ram and Micah.
She was a long-time resident of New Hope, Pennsylvania. Soby was born on October 24th, 1978, in Philadelphia, to parents, KJ and Rachel Abraham, and was the oldest sister of three. She graduated from The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a minor in Philosophy and Ethics.
Soby married the love of her life, Kevin Fennell, and went on to raise two beautiful girls, Kayla and Kristian Fennell. While Soby was widely recognized as an esteemed professional, her most profound legacy lies in her unparalleled dedication as a wife and mother. Soby adored her family and took every opportunity to champion their efforts and accomplishments in every endeavor they pursued.
She was a born leader. Soby was fully and confidently herself and in doing so believed in her ability to achieve all things, and she did. In her professional career, which spanned over 20 years, there was nothing she hadn’t accomplished from her experience as a biochemist, seasoned regulatory affairs executive for many reputable pharmaceutical companies, and leader of her own consultancy.
As Soby excelled in her career and motherhood, she was a lung cancer survivor and battled pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) with a tenacity and resilience like no other. Her commitment to her own health impassioned her to provide extensive support to numerous organizations who were researching treatments for those who had the same diagnosis, even serving on patient advisory boards for companies developing PAH therapies.
Many recognized Soby by her beautiful curly hair, radiant smile, and infectious laughter but all knew her for her sweet personality, joyful attitude, wit, brilliant mind, and endless support for those she loved. Soby frequently quoted the biblical principle from Luke 12:48, ‘to whom much is given, much is required.’ She used her gifts generously and responsibly from being a pillar in the New Hope community to an avid equal rights advocate, always championing the fight for those who couldn’t fight for themselves.
As we bid farewell to Soby, we are reminded by the profound truth that in loss, we find the opportunity for growth. Let each of us honor her memory not only in our words but in our actions, by embracing life with courage and by pursuing truth with conviction. In doing so, we ensure that Soby’s legacy endures, and while her physical presence may be gone, her imprint upon our hearts will remain eternal.
