Mary Jane (MJ) Trombley (Vaughn) was born in Redlands, a small town in Southern California. When she was a child, the bus outreach ministry of her local church regularly picked up MJ and her siblings each week, where she learned about Jesus and entered into a personal relationship with Him. MJ was baptized as a believer at that church and continued to grow and serve there until she graduated from Redlands High School.
At the encouragement of her youth group leader, MJ was able to attend Point Loma Nazarene College (PLNC) in San Diego, where she studied for three years. While at PLNC, MJ formed many deep relationships with her classmates, and served in many on-campus and off-campus ministries, most notably serving at an outreach ministry to homeless people in Ocean Beach, CA.
In 1988, MJ was challenged to spend the summer in Philadelphia for an outreach project to inner-city youth. In obedience to that call on her life, MJ sold all of her possessions in order to pay for her round-trip plane ticket and expenses. MJ found herself stationed at Bethel Temple, and over the course of that summer she fell in love with Philadelphia, with Bethel Temple, and with her future husband, Norman Vaughn. She never used the round-trip portion of her ticket, but felt led by God to remain in Philadelphia.
That year, MJ got an apartment around the corner from Bethel Temple, got a job at CARDONE Industries, and was married to Norman in the fall of 1989. In 1996, MJ gave birth to her son, Peter, followed by her daughter, Naomi, in 1999. MJ resigned from her job and chose to become a full-time homeschooling mom to her children. MJ served faithfully and lovingly in various ministries at Bethel Temple alongside her husband, and ministered to many families in the homeschool community, all while courageously battling a rare liver disease and multiple hospitalizations for over 15 years.
In 2011, just ten days past her 46th birthday, Mary Jane received the best birthday gift of all: She was welcomed into the arms of God, and was able to see Jesus face-to-face; no more sickness, no more pain.
