With a heavy heart, we announce that after a hard, long fought battle with colorectal cancer, Joseph “Joey” Andrew Stanchek Jr., passed away on May 9, 2023, at home with his wife by his side, holding his hand and surrounded by the love of his family. Joey tenaciously fought until his last breath. He was only 48 years old.
Joey was born at Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, PA on Friday December 13, 1974. He grew up in Philadelphia and was very proud to say he was from Kensington where he would form many lifelong friendships and become a mischievous “Lot Boy”.
Joey had his first child in 2002, a baby boy. Just a few years later, Joey would meet, marry and fall in love with the love of his life who would give him 2 beautiful baby girls to complete his family. Joey was a trusted role model to his only son and a tender, loving “girl dad”. He showed his son how to love with compassion and his daughters to accept nothing less than the love that he showed their mom. He was the epitome of a perfect father and husband, making sure that his wife and children felt safe and loved every day.
“He was fun and adventurous, but most importantly he was the best dad.” -Julie Lynn Stanchek
Joey was thoughtful, kind, fun, and energetic. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and was a jack of all trades. He had an expansive skillset and could fix anything. He found joy in helping his loved ones with projects and took great pride in his work. Joey had a passion for tinkering with his cars and expressing himself by creating unique metal art. His favorite place was his garage, but only second to being anywhere doing anything with his family.
Joey was a great brother but shared a special bond with his sister Alex who was instrumental and by his side during his fight. He was an amazing son, a loving and affectionate husband, dedicated father, and a friend you’d be lucky to have. Joey cared so deeply for the people around him. Joey was so many things to so many people and gave so much of himself. Joey valued peace and his calm demeanor made him the perfect person to lend an ear, give advice or help with a problem. He made an impact on many lives. Joey will be forever missed.
Joey is survived by his wife, Lauren, his children, Joseph III (20), Kaylee Rose (11) and Julie Lynn (8), his parents, Joseph Sr. and Shirley Stanchek, and sisters Alexandria, Tiffany and Brittany. He is also sadly missed, remembered, and loved by his aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and childhood friends.
A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 from 10am-12pm followed by a memorial service at 12pm.
