John E. Bergmann, age 74, after a prolonged sickness, passed away on October 27, 2018. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1943, the son of John C. Bergmann and Paula Bergmann (nee Konschak). He graduated from Dobbins Technical High School in 1960 and went into the Navy. John served our country during the Vietnam War. He met his bride-to-be on a blind date and their first date was at the Hollywood Tavern in Rockledge, Pa.
John was a lifelong, often frustrated, Phillies and Eagles fan. He loved listening to all kinds of music, especially Big Band, Bluegrass, Country Western and watched the Lawrence Welk Show. John enjoyed eating out but homemade meatloaf was his favorite. He had a reputation years ago for wasting film on scenery and always enjoyed a scenic trip to the Poconos. He enjoyed visiting historical places and learning about history, especially the Civil War. John was notorious for being a handyman around the house. You would know when he was about to work on a project because he would break out the duct tape and caulk gun. In later years, he loved taking road trips with his wife, without kids, and completed most of the Starr Tours catalog. Most of all, he enjoyed his peace and quiet and a good afternoon nap.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Dorothy Ann Bergmann (Dutill), his loving children, Monica and Andrew J. Bergmann.
Relatives and friends are invited to John’s viewing beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 (on the grounds of Forest Hills Cemetery), followed by his funeral service at Noon. Interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery. The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, be made in John’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
