Helen loved learning and became a Corp Nurse, graduating just after the end of WWII. She paid off her education by working with Native Americans in Oklahoma for a year. She was one of the first ICU and CCU nurses and went back to college, graduating with a BSN in 1981. Helen spent her nursing career at Frankford Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, and Wood River Village.
She was married to Joe Hiller from 1948 until his untimely death in 1995. Helen is survived by children Joseph (Mariko), Margaret, Claire, Edward (Mercy), Helen (Sheryl) and Charles (Sara), in addition to nine grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
She continued to enjoy learning and traveling and participated in educational trips with Road Scholar: Educational Travel for Adults (formerly Elderhostel) such as creative writing, history, and genealogy. She was proud to have published an article in Readers Digest.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends including trekking in and out of the Grand Canyon at age 70 with her sister, brother and their spouses. Helen checked off many items on her bucket list including visiting the Panama Cannel, Oberammergau (Passion play in 2000), Timisoara, Romania (birth place of her mother), Holy lands, Spain, Austria, Hungary. She loved Niagara Falls and visited over 25 times.
She will be missed by many and remembered by all whose lives were touched by her energy and caring.
