Cancer may have ultimately taken my mother’s life, but it will never take away the lessons she taught us throughout the years. Elizabeth left behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and generosity. She wholeheartedly loved her family and friends. I’m deeply appreciative to have had a mother who embraced each day with hope and optimism, despite living in pain for as long as I can remember. She used every moment as a reminder of how necessary it is not to lose focus on what’s really important in life…to love God, treat others with respect, and sometimes the hardest of all is to put others before ourselves, especially on days when we may despise life in general. Growing up, my mother always had my back, ready and willing to pick up the pieces of whatever hardships and heartaches came my way. She was the strong one, but we need to remember that some of the most tender souls are the ones who carry the most pain in their own hearts. If you were lucky enough to have known Elizabeth, than you know how beautiful she was inside and out, always carrying the weight of other people’s problems and situations as if they were her own. She’d go out of her way to do something special or say something silly just to see you smile. She had a good heart and the best of intentions were behind every decision. She was in my eyes perfectly imperfect. Elizabeth made sure that the people she loved knew how much she cared, even in the midst of chaos or during the most inconvenient moments. We all come from different walks of life, but I’m sure we can all agree that Elizabeth will always hold a special place in our hearts. Recognizing the impact she had on each of our lives makes each memory as special as the next.

No matter what age, a girl will always and forever need her mother. My heart is broken into a million little pieces that I would normally go to her for mending. Life will never be the same without her, but it’s comforting to know she’s finally at peace and pain free. It’s some of the small things  that I’ll miss most about my mother. For example, the way she coughed when she ate anything chocolate, and how her nostrils would flare when she got upset, or even how big her eyes got when she didn’t like whatever you were doing. Then there’s all the times she rubbed my head as a child to help me fall asleep at night, and the blanket of love I felt as she held me tight in her arms and made me feel safe. Even the goofy jokes she told just to hear me laugh on a not so happy day will truly be missed. It’s all the little things we take for granted that we wish we could experience just one last time. There are too many cherished memories to share, but I love you so much mom, and I will miss you forever and always.

While others think of Elizabeth as mother or friend, she was “Mommom” to me. She taught me a lot in life and was always the most caring person. She would call to make sure everything was okay and to make sure I knew she would always be there for me. My Mommom nicknamed me angel and the last time I saw her, she told me she would now be my angel. My favorite memories was her helping me obtain a claw machine addiction. She was always spending a few dollars on them, I continue to do the same.
